There are fundamentally two types of automobile parts you can use to fix an automobile, plus they both will be described, as well as the professionals and disadvantages of using each kind of automobile part.

The first kind of automobile part that comes to mind when fixing one's car is OEM car parts. The term "OEM" stands for "oe manufacturer," which means that OEM automobile parts come straight from the company that made the car in the first place. Quite simply, if someone's Chevrolet Cavalier were to fail because of the alternator or starter then an OEM alternator or basic could be purchased in order to repair the car. The benefit of buying oe manufacturer automobile parts is the fact that there will generally be a warrantee on the part that is bought. In addition, the first is usually assured that the part will continue to work and fit the car on the first try.

A downside to ordering OEM vehicle parts is the fact they are generally much more expensive that other types of automobile parts. Whereas other car parts may be around $50, the same vehicle parts that are bought from the OEM may be approximately $150. The price makes all the difference, too, when repairing your car, so that it may not necessarily behoove you to get OEM car parts.

Alternatively, the other type of auto parts that may be purchased when repairing an automobile is after-market vehicle parts, or car parts that are created for the same car by third-parties. These auto parts are generally much much easier to run into, and more auto repair outlets and shops generally carry after-market automobile parts instead of OEM auto parts. That is one of the top benefits to buying those types of car parts, but another is they are significantly less expensive than OEM auto parts. This was touched on in the last paragraph about OEM parts, but after-market vehicle parts are usually 50% or even more less than the original manufacturer's car parts.

With that said, it is very up to the individual and the situation when the car is being restored. Many people choose OEM automobile parts because they will be the safest kind of parts to go with, but quarrels for third-party auto parts are because they are much cheaper tend to be accessible.
